Sit and stand working: what we have learned
Height-adjustable desks only change behaviour when they are introduced properly. A short guide from recent projects.
Buying sit-stand desks is the easy part. Getting people to use them takes a short briefing at handover, sensible presets and monitors on arms so the screen follows the desk.
We also recommend mixing the specification: full sit-stand in team areas where people spend the whole day, fixed-height desks in touchdown zones.
Six months after handover the desks that get used are the ones people were shown how to use. It takes ten minutes on installation day.
